TechMission Corps Internships

AmeriCorps volunteer mentoring Starting this spring TechMission Corps' AmeriCorps program is offering one-year full-time paid internships serving in urban ministries in Boston, New York, Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles.

TechMission interns help urban ministry organizations use technology to help address injustice and develop at-risk communities. The following positions are available:


After School Program Coordinator Positions
This AmeriCorps position will assist with a K-8th grade after school program based in a church or faith-based organization, serving through mentoring, providing basic technology activities, coordinating volunteers, and providing overall support.

Teen Program Coordinator Positions
This AmeriCorps position will assist with a teen program based in a church or faith-based organization, serving through tutoring, mentoring, college prep, assisting with web-based academic enrichment elements, conducting community & parent outreach, assisting with community and school partnerships, planning college visits and workshops as directed, coordinating volunteers, and providing overall support.

Volunteer Coordinator Positions
This AmeriCorps position will assist with volunteer and work-study student recruitment and coordination for programs based in churches and faith-based organizations. Duties may include recruiting and placing volunteers and work-study students at sites, assisting with monitoring, data tracking, and providing overall support in volunteer management. Members may assist in other program areas as needed.

City Vision Urban Ministry Internship Program
The City Vision Urban Internship Program is a three-tier program that offers the Intern the option of participating in 1) a summer staff intern program, 2) a six-month intern program or 3) a one-year service intern program. All of these offer the intern cross-cultural experiences while serving under-resourced communities; leadership and professional development training; and the opportunity to enroll in online courses through City Vision College, an accredited online college, to earn a Certificate in Urban Ministry or complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Missions with an urban ministry emphasis. Interns receive free room and board with the opportunity to take unlimited courses from City Vision College free of charge during the internship. The credits may be transferable towards an accredited Bachelors degree program. City Vision courses provides valuable education about urban ministry, which interns will be able to apply while serving at their ministry site.

Options:

(1) Summer Staff Intern Program:

This program provides a 10-week full-time urban ministry experience. In addition to unlimited online courses from City Vision College, hands-on experience is received while interning at the chosen urban ministry site, where the standard work expectations are a 30 – 40 hours per week.National intern placements are available, as the urban ministry sites are nationwide.

(2) Six-month Intern Program:

This program offers a six-month domestic urban study-abroad program, where an Intern may earn credits that could transfer to their undergraduate degree. In addition to unlimited online courses from City Vision College, hands-on experience is received while interning at the chosen urban ministry site, where the standard work expectations are a 30 – 40 hours per week. National intern placements are available, as the urban ministry sites are nationwide.

(3) One Year Intern Program:

This is a year-long program which provides a full-time urban ministry experience.  In addition to unlimited online courses from City Vision College, hands-on experience is received while interning at the chosen urban ministry site, where the standard work expectations are a 30 – 40 hours per week.  Interns may use this option to complete their Bachelor’s degree.  National intern placements are available as the urban ministry sites are nationwide. 


Web Developer Intern Position (*VISTA)
The Web Developer Intern position is a full time position through AmeriCorps*VISTA which is responsible for supporting the technology needs of TechMission. Applicants should view this position as an internship to gain experience in technology in a nonprofit/ministry setting working in one of the largest organizations doing technology and ministry worldwide. Duties may include:

* Updating and creating new webpages using Dreamweaver and/or Frontpage 2003
* Programming scripting for TechMission's websites in PHP and/or Java/Javascript
* Maintaining TechMission's websites, online databases and other online tools.
* Assisting with any other technology or administrative needs.

 

Online Publications Editor Intern
The Online Publications Editor Intern is a full time position through AmeriCorps which is responsible for creating and editing the content of TechMission's websites including UrbanMinistry.org, ChristianVoluneering.org, TechMission.org and Safe Families. This position will also help with online community devopment through our social networking site on UrbanMinistry.org

General Requirements and Qualifications
* Applicants for this program must be at least 18 years old
* must have a high school school degree or equivalent (GED)
* must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
* specific qualifications vary by position but generally applicants should have good people skills, ability to work with children, and have a desire to learn
* familiarity with Microsoft Word and the Internet desired
* applicants with experience working with Black and Latino communities or non-profit/community/faith-based organizations are strongly encouraged to apply
* accepted applicants must follow all federal and AmeriCorps guidelines with respect to faith during official AmeriCorps hours
* *VISTA postions will have some additional requirements


Benefits
* A basic living stipend for the year of at least $11,100
* Health insurance
* At end of year, an educational award of $4,725 to pay off past student loans or future educational expenses
* Federal student loan deferment or forbearance
* Childcare, if eligible
* AmeriCorps benefits do not affect eligibility to continue receiving government assistance.
* Possible rental assistance
* *VISTA positions will have slightly different benefits
